Proper oral health during pregnancy can help prevent cavities in children. Alterations in dental development resulting from disturbances in the pre and perinatal periods facilitate the appearance of early childhood cavities, thus precipitating maternal health surveillance, especially during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. However, ideally, the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases should be done before pregnancy.
